Pokhara
Introduction to food poisoning...
01.03.2010
We arrived in Pokhara after a 7 hour bone shaking bus ride through the hills of Nepal. The journey went pretty well, mainly due to the fact that we still had not yet caught up on our lack of sleep from trekking!
We eventually got our hotel sorted after a taxi driver trying to take us to the wrong place. It is however a very nice little hotel set in quiet gardens; a welcomed sense of calm compared with the scenes outside the gates!
After a walk round lakeside we decided it was time to get something to eat, as always! We stopped at a respectable looking cafe and had a cheese and tomato sandwich each: harmless enough you would think! Although this was not to be the case. A few hours later Rosie was complaining of feeling unwell, however I felt fine so I went on and had a steak for tea. That night all changed, Rosie woke up and hurled all over the room with me desperately trying the damage limitation approach with little success! Rosie soon settled down mind, and two hours later it was my turn. I managed to make it to the toilet and proceeded to heave my guts up constantly for the rest of the night and the next day. Fortunately enough Rosie was only sick the once however she has been feeling drab since. I on the other hand seem to have bared the brunt of it and have been sick out of 'both ends' for the last two days. A great welcome to Pokhara!
On a more positive note Pokhara is a cool place. In a way very similar to Kathmandu yet with a much more relaxed and laid-back feel to it. Just what was needed!
Today we managed to find time in between toilet stops to visit the Gurkha museum which I found very interesting; Rosie was not as enthusiastic! Pokhara is the area in which the Gurkha's recruits go through the selection process ( Nothing on AOSB...) so it proved to be very interesting!
We are hoping to be feeling better tomorrow and begin to explore the area a bit more, howe ver we have plenty of time here so there is definately no rush. We just hope we are both better for Rosie's birthday!
We shall write a new entry once we have seen more of the area!
Take care, love to all
Rosie and Jim

Get yourselves to the mountaineering museum. We hired a moped and drove there. Well worth an afternoon. The moped we had will probably be faster than any the nepalese will be willing to rent to you though Jim.
